Why teach mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a tool that can reduce stress, improve focus, and help us to make more thoughtful decisions. Many people find simple pleasure in taking a mindful break during the day to just be.
What will we focus on?
In 6th grade, students will be introduced to approximately 7 of the following mindful lessons/strategies. The curriculum we use is designed by Mindful Schools, an organization which began their work in Oakland public schools. We will continue to practice as a whole school on Wednesday mornings. We are working to expand opportunities to continue mindfulness practice with Mindful Lunches in the library, Mindful Ambassadors in the classroom, and Student TV segments.
